The Feldenkrais Method®
The Feldenkrais
Method® is a system of somatic education which enhances a person’s ability to move, think and feel. It was developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, D. Sc. (1904-1984) Dr. It was introduced to The United States in late 1950’s. Today there are thousands of Feldenkrais Practitioners around the world, working in rehabilitation settings, performing arts, physical education and other disciplines.
“Learning to move with less effort” is one of the main themes of the Feldenkrais
Method®. There are two paths leading towards this goal:
Functional
Integration® and Awareness Through
Movement®.
In a Functional Integration® session, the practitioner designs a lesson that fits a person’s individual needs at that time. With gentle touch and movement, the practitioner leads the client to the pleasant experiences of self-discovery, through which more efficient movement results.
Awareness Through Movement® is a group exercise, in which the practitioner guides the participants through a sequence of gentle movements, which are designed to help a person to be aware of his or her
own self–use. Participants often describe feeling very relaxed, serene, and clear-headed afterwards.
